Join the fight against invasive species and protect our waterways

Invasive plants and animals, like Japanese knotweed, can harm rivers, lakes, and wetlands. These species can take over, hurt local plants, and are costly to manage. To help solve this, Affinity Water started the INNS Out scheme in 2021. This program helps local groups protect their natural areas from these species.

What Is the INNS Out Scheme?

The INNS Out scheme gives funding to community projects that prevent the spread of invasive species. Small projects can get up to £5,000, while larger ones can receive up to £10,000. Local groups, charities, and environmental organisations can apply.

Support Work

The scheme has supported community clean-ups and workshops to teach people how to spot and remove invasive species.

Alex Sage, Senior Asset Scientist at Affinity Water, said,
“Providing grants and volunteers helps us support events that have an immediate impact and raise awareness. It's always great to get involved with our communities and work together. Managing the introduction and spread of invasive species helps the native ecosystem thrive.”

Why It Matters

Invasive species spread fast and cause big problems. They outgrow native plants, spread diseases, and harm the environment. Community action is key to controlling these threats. With funding from Affinity Water, groups can help keep waterways and our local landscape healthy.

Get Involved and Apply

Do you know of any invasive species on your land or within our community? Find out how you can make a difference with the INNS Out scheme. Visit Affinity Water’s site to learn more and apply. By joining in, we can work together to keep our waterways clean and support local wildlife.

Funding Deadline

The current application window is open until Friday, 24 January 2025, at 23:59. Submit your application here.
