To access our water network, you’ll need to apply for a hydrant licence.

We do not hire or sell standpipes. Good-condition standpipes that are fitted with an approved Double Check Valve can draw water from our network with the appropriate valid hydrant licence.

Please note: If the form is not completed within 20 minutes, the page will expire, and your information will be lost. If you think that your application may have been lost, as you haven't been contacted by a member of the team at least 3 days after you submitted your application, please get in touch with us at hydrant.licensing@affinitywater.co.uk

Licence required

If you choose to apply for an annual licence, you’ll be asked to use points on our approved washout list. These are pre-checked points. The washout list will detail any restrictions.

If you’re applying for a Short-Term licence, we will check the hydrant/washout before use to ensure it is suitable. Please allow up to 7 days for us to put your licence in place.

Washout and/or Hydrant Location

You can access our approved washout list, or choose a washout or hydrant at a specific location.

Our approved washout list is a selection of washouts/hydrants throughout our supply area that have already been checked for suitability. We have various points across our supply area and use what3word to help customers locate each point.

Some washout/hydrant points are highlighted as being suitable for tankers or small vehicles.

If you’re able to safely store and transport water to the site, you can use these washouts/hydrants which are available for immediate use.

If you need a specific washout/hydrant you will be asked to provide the location details below. This can take up to 7 days to process.

Standpipe details

We do not sell or hire standpipes. The Hydrant Licence will be subject to you using your own standpipe. It must be in good condition and fitted with an approved Double Check Valve to protect against backflow.

Please note: For customers wishing to use a 63mm standpipe, the minimum charge band is 1-10 cubic metres/day.

We’re currently unable to provide standpipes for hire or sale. However, we operate with unmetered standpipes and have always allowed customers to use their own standpipe(s). The standpipe(s) must be in good condition and fitted with a working double-check valve.

Using your own standpipe(s)

Please Note: All standpipes must be in good working order and have a working Double Check Valve fitted.
