Saving water doesn’t have to be a chore - it can be a fun challenge for the whole family! With a little creativity, you can turn everyday tasks into exciting games, set up rewards, and even compete to see who can save the most water.
1. Make it a game
Games make everything more exciting! Try these water-saving challenges at home:
- Shower sprint: See who can take the shortest shower while still getting squeaky clean! Try to reduce your shower time by two minutes to save up to 30 litres. Set a timer so you know when the time's up!
- Toothbrush challenge: Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth. Give a point to everyone who remembers!
- Water detectives: Task your kids with spotting water leaks around the house. You can use our Look and Listen test checklist to find out how to spot leaks. If you do find a leak, make sure you book a Leak Visit, where you can get your leaks fixed, completely free of charge.
2. Set up a reward system
A little motivation goes a long way! Try:
Sticker charts: Give each family member a sticker when they complete a water-saving task. Whoever fills their chart first gets a special treat!
3. Create a friendly competition
Who can save the most water this week? Keep track of:
- Showers: Set a timer each time you go in the shower and then count up how much time you spent in the shower that week. Whoever had the least amount of time overall wins!
- Washing Up: Who remembered to use a bowl instead of running the tap – they get extra points!
- Laundry: Who waited until they had a full load before using the washing machine and used eco mode?
4. Join the My Water Footprint Challenge!
Want to take your challenge to the next level? Sign up for the My Water Footprint Challenge and see who in your family can hit their water-saving target first. You could win:
