Road Closure & Roadworks - Hendon Wood Lane

Road Closure – Hendon Wood Lane (B552) and Traffic Lights – Highwood Hill and Totteridge Common (A5109)

Update – 14th June 2022

Good news – our works have progressed well and we’re 5 days ahead of schedule. We’re pleased to let you know that the road will be fully open on Tuesday 14th June.

We’ve:

  • laid over 2,000m of brand-new pipework
  • all new pipework has been tested, connected and in service
  • worked with Cadent Gas and Openreach to reduce the period of disruption in Hendon Wood Lane by 69 days.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time - we know the diversion and works may have caused you some inconvenience . These new water pipes are essential to help reduce disruption from leaks and bursts, leave more water in our precious environment and will help to us to continue to provide a reliable, high quality supply of water to you and your local community long into the future.

We’d love to hear your feedback about how we’ve completed these works, please visit: affinitywater.co.uk/feedback.

We're starting work to improve our pipes in your area

We’re starting work to replace the water mains in Highwood Hill (A5109), all along Hendon Wood Lane (B552) and part of Totteridge Common (A5109).

These new water pipes are essential to help reduce disruption from leaks and bursts, leave more water in our precious environment and will help to us to continue to provide a reliable, high quality supply of water to you and your local community long into the future.

Working in partnership

This has been planned with Cadent Gas and Openreach, who also have works within Hendon Wood Lane.  Through this collaboration, we’re pleased to say all three sets of works will be completed within our one programme.  This means we’ve reduced the period of disruption by around seven weeks within Hendon Wood Lane. This has been made possible with the support of Barnet Highways and the Greater London Authority.

Location of works

We've already started the first phase of works as this is within private land adjacent to Hendon Wood Lane.  The next phase will start in February in Highwood Hill where there'll be temporary traffic lights and following shortly after, we'll be in Hendon Wood Lane with a full road closure and approved diversion route until mid-June (see map below).

This diversion will be clearly signed from all directions and access for residents and businesses will be maintained from Highwood Hill (A5109) at the southerly point of our works.

When we'll be working

  • Approximate dates: 12th January 2022 to mid-June 2022
  • Working hours: 7am - 7pm (Mon - Fri), 8am - 4pm (Sat) & 9am - 1pm (Sun)

How does this affect you?

  • Traffic management:  From 21st February there'll be temporary traffic lights in Highwood Hill and Totteridge Common.  From 7th March until mid-June, there'll be a full road closure on Hendon Wood Lane with a traffic diversion in place for the duration of the works.  This is approved by the Highways Authority and is the safest route for all vehicle types.  It's likely that there'll be some traffic disruption at peak times, and you may need to allow more time for your journeys.
  • Your water supply:  Your water supply may be affected during these works. We'll post a card through your door if there'll be any interruptions.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we carry out this important work.
