On National STEM Day we proudly celebrate the amazing women at Affinity Water who are leading the way in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). These fields are at the core of our work, helping us provide clean, safe water to our communities. The women on our team bring skill, passion, and fresh ideas. They also bring leadership that aims to inspire others and shape the future.
What is STEM and Why Does it Matter?
Here are the four key areas that drive the work we do:
- Science: Helps us test water quality and analyse data.
- Technology: Boosts our operations with data monitoring and water treatment tools.
- Engineering: Lets us design, maintain, and improve systems for delivering safe, high-quality water. Watch our video on how we keep water safe.
- Maths: Aids data analysis and resource planning for better efficiency.
Together, these fields help us solve problems and meet high standards.
Women Leading the Way in STEM
At Affinity Water, we’re proud to have women leading the way in STEM roles. These are the women that are making a big impact in our water industry:
Treatment Strategy Manager, Karrin Locke
Uses science and math to improve water quality and support our long-term goals in water treatment.
“I’m working on plans for our non-infra assets which involves maths and science. I’m also working on our Business Plan for AMP8 and regularly look at treatment options to ensure we maintain and improve water quality for our customers.”
Head of Transformation, Faye England
Leads her team in using new technology to solve challenges and believes STEM skills, like problem-solving, are key to leadership.
“I’m learning how important both a science and engineering background is in helping to understand how to innovate to address some of the water sector’s biggest challenges.”
“A big part of my team’s work is using new technology. I also lead innovation, which is new to my role. STEM skills are key to solving water challenges.”
Both Karrin and Faye are helping drive innovation and tackle future water challenges with fresh ideas.
Why STEM is the Future
At Affinity Water, we believe that STEM is the key to addressing future challenges in water management. By supporting women in STEM, we’re building a more diverse and strong team to drive innovation and progress.
